Our parliamentary system relies on being able to accurately examine the work of Government so that we, as parliamentarians, can best represent the interests of our constituents, as a result, any charge of misleading the House is taken very seriously. I respect the work of the Privileges Committee, which has put a great deal of time and effort into compiling evidence and reaching their conclusions.
Yesterday I voted to support the report. Faith in our parliamentary democracy and the internal processes within it is vital. In particular, the work of the Privileges Committee, and our parliamentary process should not be undermined by party politics or personal feelings.
I would like to pay tribute to Boris Johnson’s years of public service and his achievements in government, delivering Brexit, the fastest vaccine rollout in Europe and leading the international support for Ukraine. I wish him well in the future.
After what has been a difficult period, it is right that MPs focus on the priorities of this country, as set out by our Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak. These are the issues that the public consistently care about, it is what comes up frequently when I speak to constituents, and it is vital that the Government delivers on those priorities, halving inflation, growing the economy, reducing debt, cutting waiting lists and stopping the boats.
