On Saturday 17th June, Selaine Saxby MP took part in The Falklands Challenge, a 10 mile ‘Yomp’ from Instow Beach to RMB Chivenor, to honour those who served in the Falklands War in 1982 and to support The Veterans Charity.
The Falklands Challenge is a way for people in the community to remember the sacrifices of those who were deployed to defend The Falklands Islands in 1982. People across North Devon joined the challenge from cadets of Rutlish School CCF, local veterans, local politicians and serving personnel including Sgt Tracey Robinson of the RAF who completed a virtual version early this morning whilst deployed.
The Veterans Charity in Barnstaple was founded in March 2008 to support UK Veterans of all generations. They provide fast, direct support to Veterans across the entire UK who find themselves facing hardship and distress.
This week is Armed Forces Week, and on Armed Forces Day (Saturday 24th June) The Veterans Charity are hosting a celebration of the Armed Forces in Rock Park, Barnstaple. There will be a Red Arrows Flypast at 10:57, RAF ‘Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’ Lancaster Bomber at 15:11 and the Red Devils Parachute Display Team at 17:30 and plenty of entertainment to celebrate Armed Forces Day in North Devon.
Selaine Saxby, MP for North Devon, said:
“It was an honour to take part in such a fantastic challenge to mark the anniversary of the Falklands War and honour those who never made it home. I would like to thank the Veterans Charity for the incredible work that they do supporting veterans in North Devon and across the UK.”
“I was glad to bring Henry along for the walk and it was great to be joined by so many people. Well done to everyone who participated! If you have some time on Armed Forces Day this Saturday, please do visit Rock Park to celebrate with the Veterans Charity.”
