The Government has announced the latest outcome of Wave 5 of the T Levels Capital Fund application round and PETROC in North Devon will now be delivering T Levels in Agriculture and Environmental & Animal Care.
The Department for Education has approved over £100m of capital funding for 108 projects across 83 providers which will support students from September 2024. This is in addition to funding that all providers receive to purchase the latest industry standard specialist equipment, to ensure young people are work ready when they graduate from their T Level.
Selaine Saxby, MP for North Devon said:
“T Levels are a key part of the ladder of opportunity for young people, to help them climb rung by rung through their careers. Last summer saw the first cohort of T Levels students complete their courses – a huge milestone. I am delighted to see PETROC providing a number of technical qualifications that are relevant to the many good and highly skilled jobs that we have available in North Devon.
T Levels, which have been designed with employers and include a 45 day work placement, are the centrepiece to our reforms to technical education. They provide young people with the skills and knowledge they need to successfully move into the workplace –and as part of that students should be taught in world class facilities, on industry standard equipment.”
Sean Mackney, Principal and CEO at Petroc added:
“T levels are ambitious, applied qualifications that really help students put knowledge to work. They combine hands on practical learning with a strong theoretical base, that provide a first-class springboard into high skill jobs and university study. Petroc expects to have over 400 students studying a wide range of T level subjects in September 2023 with more subjects being added for 2024. This funding of over £1m will enable us to create a brand new facility for our popular animal care programmes.”
