Selaine Saxby MP, Active Travel Champion for the Conservative Environment Network, commented:
"It's disappointing that the active travel budget has been reduced. Cycling and walking schemes deliver excellent value for taxpayers' money and make these healthy, sustainable modes of transport a safer, more reliable option for people to choose. While the implementation of active travel schemes has been controversial in some areas, they can be a success with careful design and engagement of local residents. I hope the government reconsiders this decision if further fiscal headroom is found later in the parliament."
