It is excellent news that the A&E waiting times at the Royal Devon and Exeter (RD&E) and North Devon District Hospital have been slashed and are now among the best in the country. The end of year performance showed 80 percent of A&E patients were dealt with within four hours whilst, the national target is 76 per cent.
Last September, the Prime Minister visited the new discharge lounge, the Coronation Suite and we heard about how it dramatically improved patient flow through the hospital. We also visited the Jubilee Ward, a dedicated hip and knee surgery ward, helping reduce the backlog of elective orthopaedic surgeries. The introduction of the new IT system, ACT, which will streamline all of our hospital’s operations and interactions, has also helped with patient flow and waiting times, and I am glad we can see the improvements these upgrades have made to the hospital.
