I am pleased that the Prime Minister’s conduct in the House of Commons will be investigated by the Privileges Committee, this is now in addition to waiting on the completion of the Metropolitan Police and Sue Gray enquiries. I continue to listen to the evidence coming into the public domain, alongside views of constituents, colleagues and indeed the Prime Minister himself.
This is a serious matter, and it will be given proper consideration by the Privileges Committee, it should not however stand in the way of parliament getting on with its job or parliamentarians being polite and courteous to one another.
This week I am dismayed that parliamentary protocol, on all sides of the House has not been well adhered to. We are a lesser democracy if we do not treat our parliament and democracy with the respect it rightly deserves. I have this week written to complain to the Speaker about the bullying behaviour of a Liberal Democrat MP towards a number of Conservative MPs. I recognise feelings are running high, but the language and tactics being used are becoming increasingly undignified and unprofessional.
I continue to work for the people of North Devon and champion issues at Westminster, such as the cost of living, housing, farming, broadband and the environment, that I know are the most important. My team continue to support families dealing with these issues, alongside many other troubling casework enquiries such as problems with benefits, the DVLA and assisting Ukrainian families with their visas. No further statement or responses will be given on the matter of partygate, until enquiries are exhausted.
