This week, new long-term environmental targets were announced by the government as a key commitment to the Environment Act.
I welcome these targets, which will drive action by successive governments to protect and enhance our natural world, which we are lucky to have so much of here in North Devon.
These include:
- Halting the decline in species abundance by 2030
- Reducing species extinction risk by 2042
- Creating or restoring in excess of 500,000 hectares of a range of wildlife-rich habitat outside protected sites by 2042
These targets are part of the government’s mission to leave our environment in a better state for future generations. You can read more about them at http://www.gov.uk/.../delivering-on-the-environment-act..., and engage with the consultation on environmental targets at http://consult.defra.gov.uk/.../consultation-on....
