“Yesterday, almost half a million vaccinations were delivered in the UK. This weekend, many were here in North Devon, some of which had to be rearranged at short notice, which in keeping with other parts of the UK, was due to the “bumpy” supply of the vaccines. This weekend the assumed delivery of Oxford vaccines was replaced by Pfizer jabs, which meant that many of the planned vaccinations, many of which were to health care staff had to be moved or postponed. Our mass vaccination hub, the North Devon Leisure Centre was immediately put to work so that none of the vaccine doses were wasted.
I have been in constant contact with the local Clinical Commissioning Group and Ministers to ensure that we in North Devon are getting our fair share. With 2000 doses of the Oxford vaccine arriving in North Devon today and some pharmacies as well as GP practices now vaccinating, I have been assured that North Devon is on target to hit our vaccination targets alongside the rest of Devon and England.
By the end of this week all our care homes and over 80s are scheduled to have been vaccinated. If you are in this category by Monday 1st February and have not been contacted, then please email my office with your name, address, contact telephone number, doctor’s details and date of birth."
