Statement - Council Tax on Second Homes and Empty Properties

I am delighted to see that this week Mid Devon District Council is following South Hams and Cornwall in committing to charge double council tax for second home owners.  This is expected to bring in up to £400,000 as well as potentially free up some much needed properties for local families who work in Devon.

I am disappointed that Lib Dem run North Devon Council have not taken a similar stance yet and strongly urge them to adopt the same policy.

I continue to work at Westminster to change the legislation that is impacting on our housing issues here in North Devon, but our Councils do have tools in their own toolboxes that they have been slow to use.
