There are always campaigns looking to engage students with a range of subjects, and many of them use parliament and MPs as a way of reaching out to schools around the country to get involved.
Here I have listed some of the campaigns/competitions that have contacted me which I think schools across North Devon would benefit from hearing about, and hopefully getting involved with!
The Sutton Trust summer schools
The Sutton Trust summer school programmes offer students a chance to find out what further education is really like, be it University life or trying out an apprenticeship.
Their aim is to provided all young people regardless of their background the inspiration and confidence they need to achieve in the future.
The Sutton Trust run these programmes annually, in partnership with employers and universities each year. Click here If you would like to inquire about future availabilities.
The MARSBalloon Project
The MARSBalloon project is designed to give young people practical experience of designing and testing things to go into space that could one day be destined for Mars.
Thales Alenia Space’s MARSBalloon team will launch a high altitude balloon to an altitude of 30km, more than twice the height of commercial airliners, where they will be above 99% of Earth’s atmosphere.
The aim is to test anything that humans or robots will be doing on Mars in the future. This project is open to any school in the UK. There is no cost to take part in the project other than that of experiment materials and postage.
